Power plants and energy facilities depend on dense, reliable instrumentation: thousands of temperature, pressure, level and flow points feed the DCS that keeps boilers, turbines and auxiliary systems safe. WELK Meters manufactures thermocouples, RTDs, pressure and differential pressure transmitters and flow meters for power applications, and has long experience supplying and integrating thermal control (“thermal island”) equipment packages for power plants.
Typical Measurement Challenges
Power plant media are hot, high-pressure and often abrasive. Flue gas paths need draft measurement at near-ambient pressures, while boiler feedwater circuits run at tens of MPa. Instruments must match DCS signal requirements exactly, and spare parts must remain available for decades. Plants also face growing requirements for energy efficiency monitoring and emissions-related measurement.
Which WELK Instruments Fit
- Thermocouples and RTDs — including armored (mineral-insulated) thermocouples with high-temperature alloy sheaths, with types covering long-term service temperatures up to 1300 °C for boiler and flue gas measurement.
- Differential pressure transmitters (e.g. TY813) — flow measurement across orifice plates and nozzles, drum level measurement and filter monitoring, with HART communication and 0.075% accuracy options in the smart series.
- Pressure transmitters and gauges — from capsule gauges for furnace draft to high-range transmitters for feedwater and steam circuits.
- Vortex flow meters (WKGB series) — steam and gas flow measurement with temperature and pressure compensation options, medium temperatures up to 350 °C.
- Spare parts and panel equipment — I/O modules, control cabinet components and replacement instruments for plant maintenance, an area where we regularly supply Chinese power generators.
Project Experience
Our project record includes instrument and spare-part supply for thermal power plants, heat and power cogeneration steam pipeline projects, a sludge drying and co-firing retrofit at a power plant, and complete instrumentation with DCS control systems for a county-level heating project. We understand DCS interface requirements and the documentation power customers expect.
